Sanwa Super Vortex Type D / Gyro SGS-01D setup guide with M12/MT4s

(So before we get started i have to mention that this setup applies to those that have either an MT4sor M12 combined with the RX-472 receiver and are particularly running a complete Sanwa setup including the SUPER VORTEX TYPE D/ZERO esc with a SGS-01D/-01C gyro.)

Sanwa uses there new (SSL)Sanwa Synchronized Link function to tune and control there esc and gyro direct from either the M12 or MT4s, a really cool feature which doesn't make your job tedious. In order for the SSL system to take effect and to be able control the gyro and tune the ESC, including the Rev Limiter (TYPE D ONLY), theres a few things we need to do.

THESE STEPS ARE FROM MY MT4s
STEP 1:
You need to plug your electronics into the receiver in this particular way.

BATT: ESC wire
CH1: Servo/Gyro wire
CH4: SGS-01D single wire

The ESC connected to BATT and single wire connected to CH4 are the active SSL ports on the rx.

ON YOUR REMOTE:

STEP 2:
Go to <SYSTEM> <BIND>
Here you'll need to change the bind settings for each option and then bind or re-bind your tx with the rx, these settings activate SSL in order for you to make use of the AUXILIARY CODES.(explained later)

[RF MODE]: FH4T
[ST]: SSR
[TH]: SSR
[A1]: NOR
[A2]: SHR

STEP 3:
After you've binded the remote to the receiver following the first 2 steps, you now need to go through the first 4 programming modes manually. Found on page 3 of the manual.

Blue LED: Indicates the mode that your in.
Red LED: Indicates the value of each mode.

STEP 4:
Go to <SYSTEM> <AUX TYPE>
Now you need to change your AUX TYPE for AUX1 and AUX2 to CODE AUX. Changing your AUX TYPE to AUXILIARY CODES is how SSL will take effect to tune your ESC and control your gyro

STEP 5:
Go to <AUX1> and <AUX2>
Here is where all the magic of the ESC programming goes on, you can change the names of each option and you can now tune your ESC at any moments notice via your remote. There are some initial settings for the ESC that need to be done, but all of that is on the english version of the VORTEX ZERO at Airtronics.

A1CODE1: FULL BRAKE RATE
A1CODE2: DRAG BRAKE
A1CODE3: FEEL
A1CODE4: GRAD BRAKE FEEL
A1CODE5: BRAKE FEEL

(IF DONE CORRECTLY YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE FULL USE OF YOUR GYRO IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE REV LIMITER, BOOST, POWER MODES)
A2CODE1: BOOST/TIMING ADVANCE
A2CODE2: REV LIMITER (use negative increments)
A2CODE3: POWER MODE
A2CODE4: GYRO GAIN
A2CODE5: MOTION CONTROL (servo speed and sensitivity)

And that concludes my GUIDE to setting up your SANWA electronics
I hope this helps!!

  2. Hi Swerv i'm having issues getting the SSL to work on my mt4s. I'm running the same settings as above but with the rx-482. Would you know if that would have an impact on the rev limiter on my super vortex type d?

    1. Hi Sasha,
The SSL function is not going to be active if you are using the RX-482, you'll need the RX-472 to have full control of this function.

  3. Hi SwerV, the oddest thing happened. I went back to it a day after with the rx482 which has the SSL function and everything works fine. Been adjusting the settings now for a week or so and everything works fine. Not sure what the initial issue was. Appreciate the quick response though! :)

    1. Code4 Positive values, servo control takes priority over user input.
Code4 Negative values, user input takes priority over servo input.
Code5 positive values, the steering servo's transit speed will be decreased making the car less reactive to steering control inputs.
Code5 negative values, basically does the opposite. Speeds up transit speed.

  5. Hi SwervV, i have a MT4S. same Rx-482 with Sasha. so my question is does this work with NON-Sanwa gyros?

    1. As far as i know, Yes and No. You have to use either AUX1 or AUX2 in STEP mode instead of CODE for the aux-channel that you plug your NON-Sanwa gyro in to, and miss out on the features that your chosen aux-channel would otherwise give you.

    2. Here is a comment i just found on facebook. Haven't tried this myself yet.
"It will work, but takes some effort each time you turn it on.

I have my gyro gain on aux 2. When I turn my car on I set Aux 2 to Code and it puts the settings into the ESC. (SV Plus Type D in my case) Then I put aux 2 back in step mode to get the gyro working properly. It's a bit of a PITA, but works.

If you want to change ESC settings you have to switch back to code mode, but the gyro goes to 100% gain until you switch back to step mode."

    1. You have to manually use the buttons on the esc to set boost on before you will be able to activate the rev limit or turno

  10. hi I have set it all up as above but cant get my sterring or gyro to work why what am I doing wrong

  11. Need to pick turbo or rev limiter, by setting it to positive or negative values. You also need to enable boost/turbo w the programming button after you disable ssl.

If you switch from aux to step, it loses the settings. you can store them w a 4 second press on the button to disable ssl (which stores the settings).

Great writeup, I'm going to change the names right meow

  18. Hi, i've turn the gimmick mode ON and the turbo boost also working properly, but the rev limiter doesn't work, i can access the rev limiter menu in code10 aux2, I've change the value from -1 to -19, and even use positive value, still the rev limiter doesn't work. What step did i miss?
